Quality Schools International (QSI) has just opened its first school in Russia (and 37th in the world), located in Novosibirsk's Akademgorodok - near to the future technopark. Mr. Jay Loftin, the director of QSI Novosibirsk, gave us some details and answered several questions, exclusively for NovosibirskGuide.com's readers :). QSI Novosibirsk is Non-Profit International School with American Accreditation (middle states) and, actually, first of its kind in Siberia. It was opened on the invitation and with the support of Novosibirsk Branch of Sñhlumberger - the world's leading supplier of technology and information solutions to the oil and gas industry. "We're ready to take in anyone, who is interested". - Mr. Loftin says. That means school intakes not only children of expats, but russian kids as well. "But russian parents should fully understand, that QSI is an International Standart School, not just a language school", - he says. English as a native language is a must for every teacher of any general subject (such as math, cultural studies etc.) There are three teachers now in QSI Novosibirsk - two Americans (Mr. and Mrs. Loftin) and one British. Today QSI Novosibirsk is focused mainly on preschool courses (start time - Jan 2009). But Mr. Loftin notices, that they're ready to teach children of any age, even now. Mr. Loftin mentions, that Novosibirsk expat community isn't big enough for such a metropolis, and it tends to be rather disconnected. But he is still optimistic, when it comes to the future of Novosibirsk and Akademgorodok: "People keep coming". Mr. Loftin believes, that in next several years more and more international companies will open their branches or offices in Novosibirsk. And this process has really started - for instance, such corporations as Sñhlumberger, Intel or Catepillar are already into it. And if Technopark project will not fail, things will be happening even faster. Also Loftin, who've seen a lot of russian cities, is pretty sure, that Novosibirsk and Akademgorodok have lifestyle more similiar to the American one, than the other russian cities do. On the other hand - it has benefits, typical for any European city: for instance, good public transportation system and short distances. It can also help to attract foreigners to Novosibirsk.
